Don't know why...Maybe it is because we have a baby.

I just finalized the ritual which will involve my husband as Summoner and a coven sister who is going to be the Handmaiden for the first time. I'm so excited! I want to type the chant out for everyone on an index card so they can look it over and become familiar with it. We'll be layering with the women singing one chant and the men singing the other.

Class this Friday will have our coven dying eggs in which to decorate the altar and the ritual grounds with. As a matter of fact, an egg dyed in each elemental color will mark the quarters in addition to the candle that I usually use. wheeee! It's going to be lovely! I can't wait.

Hmmm, I think for Beltaine, I'm going to treat myself to new ritual wear. :)
12th-Feb-2008 07:17 pm - The Goddess in Springtime

"She changes everything she touches
Everything She touches changes
Change us, touch us,
Touch us, change us."

I'll overlay this chant with the Earth My Body chant for this Ostara. We're going to be focusing on the seeds we personally want to plant for ourselves. How do we want to grow? What do we want to accomplish for the harvest? This is the time to ask the Goddess to help us. We have to work towards our goals, it's true, but this is the holiday we can show the Goddess what we need in our lives and we are taking the first steps to manifesting that. We are asking the Maiden Goddess to guide us.

This is also a perfect time to get into touch with our inner child. So much of our daily lives is spent being the 'adult' that we lose touch with our inner self. We must learn to let this private side come out and play once in a while. Perhaps we overprotect this part of ourselves. Maybe not enough? This the season to learn more about ourselves.

Blessed Be Everyone! I'll post more about Ostara in the coming days. :)
5th-Jan-2008 10:40 am - Imbolc, February 2nd
Groundhog's Day. The day the little guy comes out of the ground and if he isn't afraid of his shadow, he stays out to play promising us an early spring. If he runs back inside we'll have 6 more weeks of winter, or so they say. This day is also Imbolc, aka Brighid's Day.

The celts used to celebrate this day by cleaning their homes ("spring cleaning" may have come from this holiday) and laying fresh rushes on the floor. They would also clean out the fireplace for the year. Not only was this the place to cook but a fire was left all the time during the winter to keep the home warm. This day the fire would be put out and the old ashes swept out. This was also a night of feasting. So (the story tells)the family would journey together to the Priestesses of Brighid who tended Brighid's Sacred Flame with a torch. They torch would be lit from this flame and blessing were bestowed to the family for health, creativity, a peaceful home, etc. They family would then take the torch home and relight their hearthfire with it. They would cook a meal for a village feast and they would all gather in the center of the village that night for dancing, feasting, and merriment. A young couple hoping for a baby could make a corn dolly and petition Brighid to bless the home with the pitter patter of baby feet. This done, the couple could expect to be expecting baby by Beltaine.

The sacred fire is tended today by the Daughters of Brighid. Each geographic location has a cill (pronounced "cell" ) or more and each person in a cill takes a flameshift. Each cycle of flameshift lasts 20 days so each person is assigned a day. On their shift at sundown the person performs a ritual and lights a candle that represents that sacred flame.

Rituals for Imbolc can include making candles, making the Brighid's cross, and making corn dollies. Also it is seen as brining in good luck for the year if you finish burning all old candles from the previous year and setting out new, fresh candles.
This ritual is also the time to celebrate the young Sun as He gathers strength. By Beltaine He will wed the Goddess. She is still at this time in the underworld being reborn to return in Ostara as the Maiden.

Blessed Be!

The Sun has been born and is getting stronger, promising us a lovely spring. The Oak King defeats the Holly King and the Goddess decends into the Underworld to morn her lover. She will be reborn and join the Sun in the Spring. Though winter is upon is and is blanketed on glittery white, all is cold and dark, we take time to enjoy the fruits of the harvest and be with friends, family and children. No field to be tilled until spring. Though this can be a harsh time it is a time of celebration and light.

In our circle, we focused on the promise of Spring and what it may bring us. I directed our energy to help those who have suffered from the winter storms. We left the Goddess light on the altar unlit to signify her journey to the Underworld. We lit the god light to signify the tiny child light in the universe. Elora was a little cranky as she had a flu shot this week, but it was nice ceremony over all.

One change I have made to the way we do things is instead of using a protection oil for those coming into circle, I smudged everyone with white sage. Elora has fair skin that is sensitive and I thought the sage was a better choice because of this. With new people joining us for ritual and not knowing if they are sensitive, skin allergy, etc, this is easier and accomplishes the same thing.

So after circle was ended, I carved the turkey (cut myself in the process but I still have my finger, LOL) and served the buffet of colored pasta tossed in a light italian dressing, cheesy veggie medley, and of course the rosemary/sage roasted turkey that came out beautifully. It tickeled me when Oreana was impressed that I also cook. *grins* heheheh I blessed the dinner while it was cooking.

Hope everyone had a nice Yule. Can't wait for Imbolc....the candlemas, Brighid's Day!
19th-Dec-2007 05:01 pm - Application process
patron goddess
In April (or whenever I get my tax return) or hopefully sooner, I'll pay the yearly tithe to the Covenant of the Goddess and send in the application with the local chapter of the Covenant. I'm so excited! I'm working very hard to make us totally official.

Here is an email I sent to a prospective studentCollapse )
19th-Dec-2007 02:28 pm - Mission Statement
In working to establish our coven, I neglected to provide a copy of our mission statement. It is on the profile page of this community.

Growing pains.....I hope to have us well established and functioning as an official coven in the next few months.
10th-Dec-2007 07:36 pm - YIKES!
I had my baby so with motherhood I haven't been close to a computer to post any classes. I'll post one Friday as Yule is coming up. It's going to be Yule related. *wink*

In other news, I have 2 potential students. With the drama of the old year moving behind us and my little one has come along now, I will devote more time into growing the coven and my drumming circle. Expect weekly classes to be posted here and I'll also post about the holiday.

FYI, for anyone who is interested and liveing in the metro Atlanta area I will be having a public circle at my home. Please leave a comment and I'll let you know how to get in touch with me.

Blessed Be

I know I haven't posted a class in a long while. A new baby is sure to change things. I'll be posting classes again very soon. I hope to get one in for tomorrow. I'll write it but don't know for sure if I'll get to a computer to type it out and post it tomorrow. I will before the end of the week however.

Blessed Be!
